Out
Of Hours And Emergency Calls
NHS DIRECT is a service
providing an initial point of contact for medicals problems. Their telephone no
is 0845 46 47. Your call will be answered by an experienced call handler who will
take some details of the patient and the problem, eg name, address, date of birth,
telephone number and the nature of the problem. This information will help them
to help you as quickly and effectively as possible. A nurse or doctor will telephone
you back to assess the problem further and agree with you further advice and treatment.
As a result you may, depending on the problem:
1. Receive telephone advice about the problem and how to deal with it
2. Be invited to attend a primary care centre to be examined by a doctor
3. Be offered a home visit by a doctor
4. Be advised to go to Casualty or dial 999
Our out of hours answerphone will give you the telephone numbers you require to
contact a doctor in an emergency when the surgery is closed. Please have a pen
and paper to hand.
